Plantar Fasciitis
Pathology of this injury is commonly used to describe pain in the proximal arch and heel.
Structures involved- Plantar fascia and calcaneal tuberosity.
Symptoms and Signs- pain in the medial arch and medial distal heel. Severe pain when rising in the morning and after sitting for a long period.
Treatment- RICE to reduce pain and inflammation. Ultrasound to increase blood flow. Use of a heel cup and arch taping
Rehab- Toe touch crutch walking. Initiate foot flexor strengthening against tubular resistance. žTakes
up to 3-4 weeks.
Taping- The use of a night splint to maintain in a position of static stretch has also been
recommended. A simple arch taping or alter native taping often allows pain-free
ambulation.
